Equine Buyer and Seller Advocacy Services

Navigating the equine marketplace can be a complex and emotional process, whether you're buying or selling a horse. At The Equine Expert LLC, we provide expert Equine Buyer and Seller Advocacy services to ensure that both buyers and sellers make informed, confident decisions. We are not a broker, and we do not buy and sell horses for clients. We are your advocate and will be by your side every step of the way. As opposed to agents or brokers, our compensation is not commission based, increasing when the price of the horse is higher. We do not have a hand in the cookie jar so to speak, allowing us to advise our clients unbiased and independent, with the only goal to make sure your purchase or sell is executed accurately and fairly. We can also help you navigate the politics of a barn including the client and trainer/agent relationship if something is just not feeling “right”, whether that be before or after a sales transaction, lessons, boarding arrangements, or having that feeling that it is time to move to a new barn.

For Buyers:

Typically, when buying a horse, you either work through your trainer/broker, or you may decide to locate a horse on your own. Either way is fine, but there are steps and measures we will guide you through to make sure you are not being taken advantage of. We have helped numerous parents navigate the buying and leasing of a horse for their child, the adult who is buying a horse for the first time, or who has already been burned a few times. We can also help you navigate the politics of a barn and help you decide if you should stay or find another barn.

  • Horse Selection and Evaluation: We work with you to ensure you are finding the right horse that meets your needs, whether for competition, leisure riding, breeding, or other purposes. Our expert evaluation process includes assessing the purpose of your purchase and future use of the horse, and then assessing the temperament, health, conformation, and performance history to ensure you are making a sound investment. You will work directly with your trainer/broker or seller, and we work only with you to protect you every step of the way and to help educate you through the buying process. The buying process is an emotional purchase, so it is helpful to have someone by your side that is your advocate and unbiased.
  • Market Insight: With our extensive knowledge of the equine market through our appraisal services, we offer valuable insight into current trends, pricing, and breed-specific considerations. We'll help you navigate the market to find the best value for your budget.
  • Negotiation and Contract Review: We advocate for your best interests during negotiations, ensuring fair pricing and favorable contract terms. We are senior appraisers and stay fully abreast of the market both nationally and internationally. We walk you through the sales process and assist you with asking appropriate and knowledgeable questions throughout the sales process. If you decide to buy the horse, we will help you through the pre-purchase examination and navigate you through this process where you are in charge, and get the information you are paying for. We also advocate for you through the purchase, such as reviewing sales contracts, assisting you in negotiating terms, obtaining registration papers, information on transportation, all types of recommendations that might arise, and protecting you from hidden risks or other factors you may not be aware of.

For Sellers:

Typically, when selling a horse, you either work through your trainer/broker, or you may decide to sell your horse on your own. Either way is fine, but there are steps and measures we will guide you through to make sure you are not being taken advantage of, and you are selling your horse as an ethical seller. This will help prevent issues from buyers coming after you once your horse is purchased. You will work with your trainer/broker and the buyer, and we will work directly with you as your advocate.

  • Pricing Strategy: We assist in determining a fair and competitive price for your horse based on its pedigree, training, health, and market demand. Our goal is to help you maximize your horse’s value while ensuring a smooth sale. We are senior appraisers and fully aware of the market both nationally and internationally.
  • Promotional Review: We will review materials that you prepare to promote your horse to make sure the sales material puts your horse in its best light, the material is ethical and forthcoming, and work with you on deciding avenues to best promote and sell your horse.
  • Negotiation and Contract Support: As your advocate, we will guide you through the negotiation process, ensuring you receive the best possible price and favorable terms. We also assist with information to be included in the agreement and reviewing the sales contract, ensuring both parties are clear on the terms and conditions.

But we are also available to travel and come on site as well.
